Each instance runs in a separate server, and data access load is balanced across the servers in a cluster. Grid computing can benefit you in a few ways. First, it can provide high availability (HA) capabilities; if one server in the grid fails, another takes over instantly. A second advantage is increased overall performance. The Oracle grid is also easily scalable. Increasing processing power and database performance is a matter of adding more machines to the grid. ODP.NET takes advantage of grid support transparently; it does not require you to write any special code in your application to take advantage of its benefits.
